Just when you thought you had your whole year planned out. Just when you thought that everything is working out. Just when you thought that everything had a purpose.
And then one weekend all of that is gone.
For two weeks you feel lost, disoriented even. For two weeks you think that you’ve lost yourself.
One day you deny the truth that everything has changed. The next day you wake up and realize that life goes on.
You cannot find the person you were before all of this happened. Because you’re different and things have changed. You cannot be that person anymore. Instead you are reminded that you can be someone better.
You look back not to be someone from your past. But you look back on the times when things were hard, but you got out of it a better person. You remember that it just took time. And you remember that somehow, no matter how long it took, you were better. And that all of it happened for a reason.
And then you pick yourself up again.
You look inside your heart and find the other things and the other people that make you happy.
You look for this people, you talk to them. You have coffee with them. And you feel just how much you are loved and appreciated.
You look back at the photos of the places you’ve been to, and you slowly remember the adventures you had just a few months ago. You remember that sometimes you just have to let go of the past, and open yourself up to the world and life again. And you know that when you do this, wonderful things and people will come in to your life again.
You remember that you just have to make the first step towards something new. You remember that you have to stop holding on to something that’s holding you back.
You remember the time you jumped from a 233-meter tower on your 25th birthday. You remember that moment when half of your feet are on the ledge and how looking down at the earth below made you so scared. But when you looked forward and straight, you saw the horizon and you got reminded that life has so many possibilities to offer. And then you jump. You let go. And the jump was indescribable. But one thing is for sure – you felt free.
A few days ago I jumped. I made the decision to let go and stop holding on.
Today I made the first step towards another adventure.
And now I just have to be patient and have faith that I will have another wonderful year ahead.
